New authors, writers, published and anything in between…

So, I decided to write a paranormal book from my own cultural perspective. I’m Latin (Puerto Ricania/ Cubanita), Irish, African-American and Native American. Yet, I wanted my characters to reflect who I was, but incorporate other cultures as well. My books center on the myths of Ast`/the Egyptian Goddess Isis, Osiris, Horus both Elder and Infant, Thoth, the Underworld, the legends of the first wolf King linked to Romulus and Remus, the Goddess Sekhmet, the Japanese Sun Goddess, Finnish and Keltic legends, Ancient Church societies like the Brotherhood, the Avantes and Flaminie, Wyatt and Surrey, , Spartacus, Merlin, Shamanistic Rituals and the legend of the ancient Blackfeet; and Teaching. I’ve written 10 1/2 paranormals so far, (Teaching Between Midnight and Dawn Series) 3 Historical Romance, and 1 Contemporary Women’s fiction. My first book to be published was Teaching Between Midnight and Dawn by Eternal Press on Aug 7th of this year.

Anyway, I thought that I would take what we know of the paranormal genre, and instead of making the main character like this kick ass detective, hunter, or private dick; I decided to throw a bunch of teachers in the mix, who had historical knowledge of what vampires, wolves and ghosties were all about; but would never in a million years believe it was true.

This my friends was…the…hardest…idea to sell to anyone!

Lol, but finally I did. I got a bunch of rejection letters that were both painful and insightful; but I will say that the most hilarious one that I got (won’t embarrass the editor because she wasn’t prejudice, just more like ignorant; and she apologized profusely later) was from this company, who looked at my last name (INFANTE`) and assumed that the accents that my Scottish werewolves have were actually typos. She said that the book was very entertaining, but she was very concerned about my language skills, then suggested that I take an English as a second language course. Needless to say, I laughed hysterically, sent her an email back and told her that not only was I a teacher, but the characters had accents.

After that, my sister gave me this lil book called, “Dirty Rotten Rejections,” and I still laugh every time that I think about that one. The book was very uplifting, and told of the plights that other very well known authors went through. Huckleberry Fin was rejected 35 times, E.T, 28, and a host of others. I bet the studios who rejected E.T are still kickin their own asses! hahaha!

I wanted to start this blog because although we live in the 21st century, there are vast wrongly sighted stereotypes, labels, ethnic discrimination and beliefs that continue to be perpetuated out there in the real world. The very idea that a publishing company would think that the average soccer mom wouldn’t want to read my book, because the main female character is Half Caucasian and Half African seems preposterous to me. But many of the editors that I have spoken to in the last five years swear that this is true. They themselves are in no way prejudice ( at least they didn’t sound like it), it is just that this is still a business; and they want to be able to market what the know they can sell, (Hence Twilight. I have no prob wit Steph, I’m just not a fan. But I am a fan of her popularity, hook a sustah up Steph!)

Notwithstanding, at the same time, I think it is equally unfair to be pigeonholed into one specific section ( like because I’m mixed my books should be in either the African-American section, or the Latina. This stems from that antediluvian idea of that ole`”One Drop” rule bollix that continues to be preserved.

This blog is not only about my books, but it is also for those of you who feel like I do, and want to vent lol, or just talk and swap ideas about the paranormal genre and what we think would make it even better than it already is. Paranormal and many of its origins; Voodoo, Necromancy, Mystic entrancement, Sangria, Wicca, Magick, Voulrdoron and a host of others; as well as the ancient spiritual workings that originated to begin with that many subscribe to today are not from Americans. So to classify them as one specific forum seems like complete bollix to me. Remember, America, Spain, as well as Rome wanted to stamp out anything that wasn’t of a Christian/Catholic edict.

Writing, writing, and more writin…

Have you ever been in the thick, of writing, then all of a sudden you hit an enormous, flat out big flippin brick wall?

Well, that’s how I felt yesterday. I am at the present working on book 11, and for some reason I’m stumped. I thought if maybe I read a lil, it would produce something; but that didn’t work either. Not to mention, I don’t like to read other people’s work when I’m writing, because somehow the subconscious always seems to latch onto something from that person’s work, and unfortunately you may, with no intention at all, plagiarize their work; so I stay clear when I’m writing.

So I am now stuck. I believe that the other ten book are amazing, if I may say so myself. Book two, Teach me the Night, in the series Teaching Between Midnight and Dawn is a lot more juicer than book one. You have more of the erotic, (which is a given, c’mon its Vamps! lol). You have the introduction of the Vampires, Saix and Sephoroth which the first book touched on, who are actually in command in this one. And god are they hot! I should know, lol, I made them that way. But it picks up from where book one left off. You have a host of new characters entering; more werewolves from the Scottish Clan, but also Magnus, a 579 year old Warlock shows up to help; not to mention Tobey, the main character’s twin brother. You have the first real glimpse of the Council and their debauchery, and wicked ways, more action, and of course Magick! Arieanna seems to only amplify. (spelled that way on purpose, it indicates ancient). But most importantly, the main characters Jobey and Saix find that ultimate, willing to give anything; even walk into daylight love, which is the center of each of the books.

Well, now I need some inspiration here lol, maybe its time for a trek to Starbucks. A green Tea frap sounds really-really good right now!

Bye for now guys!

The New Book…

Arieanna never thought in her wildest dreams that she, would fall in love with a Lycan; let alone believe that they even existed! It went against everything that she had ever been taught to believe. She had never once given them any credence. The things that go bump in the night were just that, and she wanted it to stay that way too!  But just one touch from him, and everything changed. The way that his hands seemed to drawn something expected from her, to the way that his eyes seemed to smolder every time he looked at her. She had been safe and sound in her own lil chromatic world.  Until he turned her safe little world upside down, and unleashed something in her, that she even herself feared…

Book Excerpt;

I walked to the terrace then and pushed open the double doors, and he was sitting at the table dressed sexy as hell as usual. He was in a black suit that had no collars, and looked like it could have been a mock tux. He stood up then, and I saw the fire leap to his eyes. I had to stifle the gasp.

I looked around, and thought Gladys had out done herself. The terrace was enclosed with netting, and there were lamp heaters, a fire in the fire place, and the table was set for two. There was champagne being chilled and I thought, good girl. He walked to me then, and kissed the pulse at my throat and I sighed.

“Damn, ye smell good.” He growled and I giggled. He led me to my seat, and started to pour me a glass of champagne, when I put my hand over the rim of the glass.

“I’m not sure if I should.” I purred with a wink, than batted my lashes.

“Afraid of lil champagne?” He asked grinning, and I could see that same twinkle in his eyes.  The servants brought the first course, and it was delicious. I had no idea what it was, but Gladys had put her foot in it.

Next was the main dish of lobster, and oysters. I started laughing at the little note-card under the plate. It read; “may hap we’ll have tiny lil feet running round here soon,” and I showed it to Auron who laughed as well.

I suddenly heard music playing, and he took my hand and we swayed with the music. I was surprised at how much the British liked R&B. It was Mario’s “Music for Love” playing.

“Ye do know that I love ye Dove, right.” He asked looking down on me.

“Bueno, eso espero, porque Te amo demasiado,” I replied looking up at him.

“In English please.” He grinned looking down at me.

“I said, ‘well I hope so because I love you too’.”

He bent his head and kissed me, but it wasn’t like the usual heat filled kisses that I was use to. It was something entirely different, and I felt his love. I dropped my shields as he taught me, and the emotion he sent my way nearly staggered me. I looked up at him then. His eyes were shining, and I knew in that instant that he really did love me for me, and not Annabeth.

He guided me over to the table, then removed a napkin and took out a little black box. He opened it, and I nearly choked when I saw the size of that fricken diamond. He took my hand and put it on my finger. He removed the other napkin, and there was another box. He opened it and took out two gold bands.

“Frae ma soul, tae yer’s.” He whispered thickly and slipped it onto my finger, and I started to cry. He looked at me then.

“What is it Pet?” He asked, bending so that he could see my face.

“Nothing, it’s just so beautiful.” I said between hiccups dabbing at my mascara so it wouldn’t run, as I slipped the other ring on his finger. He held me tight for a moment, then picked me up and carried me into the house and up the stairs.

When we reached the room I gasped.

Gladys was definitely a keeper!

There were roses on the bed, and the room was lit with soft candle light and incense.

Netting was also placed around the bed. I grabbed the remote for the stereo, and Blackstreet’s “Deep” sang into the room.

I smiled to myself then. Adin was such a freak, I thought grinning.

I looked at Auron then, and took him by the hand…

Ah, ah, ahh lol; now check out the book  eternal press.biz

Until he turned her safe little world upside down, and unleashed something in her, that she even herself feared…
“Love me.” She suddenly whispered closing her eyes, and he continued to stare up at her shocked. Did he dare? He hadn’t made love like that in centuries! He could feel and smell pack in her, and it was exhilarating to him! Could he even control it? She was human and not herself, but the pack smell continued to get stronger. He breathed it in again, and it sent a shock of electricity up his spine, and he gasped.

He tried to push her back, but she whispered his name. He felt his beast stir, and what control he had left him as she looked down on him. He took her to that same alcove, and pushed her
to the ground a bit roughly. He could smell her lust on the air mixed with pack, and he
ripped the coat off her, then her tee-shirts. She ripped his shirt open, and then…

ah, ah, ahh, check out the book @ eternalpress.biz to finish this juicy scene lol!
