Marvelous…Wonderful and Entertaining…

This is the Teaching between Midnight and Dawn Series

So,

Due to the fact that I write this blog, I am always solicited by Publishing companies looking to feature authors. I have posted some good ones, but every now and then you find that“Absolute Gem,” and just want to share it.

I found exactly that in Tessa Smith McGovern’s awesome little book ” Cocktails for Book Lovers.”

It is chalk full of these amazing drink recipes, but the awesome part about it is that these are actually featured drinks, that Many of the Greats partook in, while they sat down to pen some of the most prolific works in history.

Now, I am secretly a Jane Austen fan.

jane (2)

I’m okay with her regular works like Sense and Sensibility,

sense

Pride & Prejudice, pride (2)

(especially since I’m still waiting for my Mr. Darcy…to softly utter in my ear as we make …well…you get it lol… “Ye have bewitched me body and soul,” lol) but I am more inclined to favor her less known works like,

” A Room of Our Own,” because domesticality was never my strong point.

However, anyone would love to sit down and pick her brain if they could, while sipping on “Miss Austen”s Delight made from:

1oz Gin
1oz Malmasey
2 Maraschino cherries

Equally, not only does Ms. McGovern give you these fabulous drinks, but she also depicts a brief bio capture, to give a little information about the author; encase you’re not like freaks like me who live, teach and breathe literature lol.

This book I highly recommend, because not only are the drinks Delicious, (believe me, I’ve tried a few already lol) but it gives you an insight into the author’s lives, that you might otherwise have never known.

Ms. McGovern features well known authors like;

Anne Bronte
Kate Chopin
Charles Dickens
William Faulkner

Yet, also gives you a taste, (yes pun intended), of some of the most delicious beverages I’ve seen in ages.

Just try Elizabeth Taylor’s, one of the Original Diva’sElizabeth (2)

Pear Smash…

Not only will you be giddy from the alcohol, but the fact that you are sipping nectar from the Book Goddesses & Gods lol.

Try I today, I promise you’ll just love it like I do 😉

Hey There Big Spender…

Author Alexandria Infante for Eternal Press.

This is the Teaching between Midnight and Dawn & A Lite Farie Tale Series…

So,

It’s been a while since I posted, been really busy; sorry guys :(.

Well I started working on the new books, and well it’s been crazy. I recently revamped A Lad’s Trouser’s, because I was getting feedback from some of the fans on how they liked the story, but wished it was in true form; so I took the weekend to revamp it, and it is now in 1800’s form. I must admit I had fun doing it as well. I got a sad review for A Slow Time to Love, but I’m getting used to it. I also realized yesterday that the pdf’s I offered for free on Bookie’s Christmas party may have been the old unedited pdfs, and this may be the reason for the review. I’m going over the book now, and if so, I’ll contact Bookie and offer the new true ones to the readers who got them as gifts.

Anyway… on to happier news.

I have six new books I’m working on, and thought you guys would like some tid bits;

Historical Romance Update…

My newest in the Historical genre will be A King among Thieves, set in 1600s Scotland. Symphony has been the hand servant to the king for many years, however he was a bit frisky; and now she is with child his newest surviving heir. It does not matter that she is mulatto, Symphony still carries an heir to the throne; and the Duke of Lochlier will stop at nothing to make sure Mary, King John’s legitimate child inherits the throne; even if it means getting rid of Symphony and her illegitimate heir. Before his death the king entrusted his knights-men Kendrew Bànach to protect his heir at all cost. And what better way to protect her than an introduction to Black Shamus and his crew.

Kendrew has been in faithful service to the king for the last ten years, however with the threat of another war…he longed for the highlands. The king gave him charge of his hand servant, and as he gazed into her beautiful cinnamon eyes, he knew that only death could keep him from protecting her and her unborn child.

Yea…I’ve got a mean thing for those Scotts. What I wouldn’t do for a hot Scotsman with an amazing body! Hahaha! The accent alone could make me…well never mind… I’m sure you get it lol.

The next is Shards of Grey set in 18th century England, and because I’m using the tail end of the 1790s as well I was able to add a bit of piracy here too. Wooho just fun.

It is Julia’s 18th birthday, and all she desires is a holiday in England. However, she must be chaperoned; and the very idea of Mrs. Tilling’s dreadful daughters Leuticia and Millicent chaperoning her is cause for the vapors. This leads Julia to entreating her father to allow her to take Absel, her childhood friend along. It didn’t matter that she is mulatto, she is Julia’s best friend!

William Aldridge knew after ten years in New Gate, his life needed a change. When he boarded the Marry Ellen  bound for America, he never imagined in a million years that it would be ravaged by pirates, nor that he would met the most beautiful woman he had ever seen; and the fact that she was a slave…didn’t matter one bit to him.

 Paranormal Update…

Next is book 12 Hidden Shadows of the T.B.M.D series. Finally Nia’s premonition comes true, and it’s anybody’s guess who survives it. It should have been out in the beginning of the summer, but you guys know how we writers are; we get sidetracked with other projects lol, and I put out Napoleon’s Gift instead lol.

 Gata; Daughters of Light

the fourth installment of the A Lite Farie Tale series will be next.

With the new births, and Dagdha venturing back and forth between the two world, an ancient prophecy even the king didn’t know about has begun. Will Bekan wake from his comma, and if he does is he the reincarnation of Lokie; or has Lyra’s love for him saved him.

 Contemporary Update…

Sands & Spirits.

All Sora wanted was a year of freedom from tenure, academic projects, and the snootiness of the department. When Mina surprises her with a trip to Egypt, not only is she surprised, but ecstatic as well. However the icing on the cake is British Anthropologist Forester Cummings; just those baby blues of his alone could have her digging up things she’d sworn off doing for a long while.

 The next installment

Grave Reviews; Meghan.

Although Meghan knew Hannah from college and they had been best buds, she hadn’t heard from Hannah since she took the job with the New York Times; so why would the detective show her Hannah’s picture and ask her if she knew Hannah. Meghan had nothing to do with the review world, but the severed ear in the box; said she was in it now! And remember guys, you can find all of my books on Amazon.com from $2.99 and up 🙂

Have an awesome Sunday….

Interracial Paranormal Romance
Interracial Woman/White Male
Book 1

Blurb:

Midna knew there was something different about Det. O’Crinnilan from the moment he helped her up from the ground.

From the way the accent seemed to come and go, to the way her senses seemed to be on overdrive every time he came anywhere near her.

And Good lawd!

Those amazing eyes of his.

But she never would have guessed in a million years that he was a fricken fairy.

This is the Teaching between Midnight and Dawn Series

So,

I promised reviews, so now you have them. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I had some time to read some interesting reads, and I truly enjoyed myself with many of them. I’m only doing five today, them I’ll hit the next five next Friday.

Drum Roll Please……….

The first is Dark Wolf Rising by Meg Harris

dark wolf risingBlurb: Eric Drake, a powerful Dark Wolf, has never trusted himself around human females—preferring to mate only within his pack. That is, until he encounters Chelsea Smart snooping around Silvercrest pack land in search of her missing sister. Secretly, Chelsea thinks Eric is the sexiest man she’s ever seen, though she is wary of his potent Alpha energy. Then it’s discovered that Chelsea’s sister is being held by a pack of vicious Lycans, and Eric heroically leaps into action. Now, Chelsea will risk everything—her body and soul—to surrender to the passion that will mark her as Eric’s woman for all eternity…if they survive.

This lil diddy was cool to read. Although I am sooo not a fan of Harlequin anything, this was a good read. liked the tension between Eric and Chelsea, but at times I wanted to slap the crap out of Chelsea. She was head strong, but very naive at the same time. Good read

Dark Season by Amy Cross

dark season Blurb: When Sophie Hart is rescued from a mugging by a mysterious, silent vampire, she discovers that she is part of a dark prophecy. Patrick is the last vampire on Earth, having killed the rest of his species at the end of a bloody war, and he has plans for Sophie. But will she survive?

Very good read, I’m just upset at the end. I didn’t like the abruptness of the ending. I can’t wait for book 2, but I’m still annoyed with how it ended. I don’t usually read books where the characters are in their early 20s, but this was a good book, and I will be downloading the 2nd book for Black Friday lol.

Vampire Vacation: Just One Taste by Cj Ellisson

just one tasteBlurb: Meet Vivian. She’s a 580-year-old vampire who exudes sex, has a talent for drama, and is passionate about two things: her human husband, Rafe, and their resort for the undead. Her ability to project physical illusions has created the perfect vacation spot — a dark, isolated Alaskan hideaway where visitors can have their wildest fantasies come true. Vivian knows the best performance requires perfect timing, but the powerful vamp is put to the test when she discovers a corpse in a locked guestroom minutes before the next arrivals. Always cool-headed, Rafe hides the body, convinced he and Vivian can find the culprit without disturbing their guests. Juggling the increasingly outrageous demands of their customers while tracking a killer isn’t easy. Will their poking and prodding give them the answers they need, or will it uncover secrets Vivian would kill to protect?

So this book was good too. I noticed that the author changed the cover and title, so I was confused for a bit, and had to literally go search my kindle for it again to make sure that I had the right information. I liked what I read, but unfortunately it was passed off as a free excerpt, but amazon gives the impression that its the whole book for free. I haven’t downloaded the second part, because although I liked the characters, I’m really not expecting myself to buy the next installment. Don’t get me wrong, it was a very interesting story, it just didn’t pull me like I expected it to.

  Midnight Fire by Melody Anne

midnight fireBlurb: Phoenix Light’s world collapses around her when her dad rushes in the house and switches on the television to see enemy soldiers are taking over their world. Luckily, her father knew an attack was imminent and he built a vast shelter in the mountains for their family, and thousands of others. What the people on earth don’t know is the war is much more than a human take-over. The forces of good and evil are battling and the humans are their pawns. Jayden, A Dark Angel, is a servant of Vyco and sent in to lead the survivors to their death, but the first person he meets is Phoenix and he finds he can’t destroy her. Jayden and Phoenix fall in love in spite of the battles around them and lean on their friends and family along the way. Jayden has to make the decision to choose good or evil. Will Phoenix stay human, or become immortal and join Jayden? Can she give up her friends and family? Will she have to choose?

I kinda wasn’t feeling this one.

I’m not really into the teen young adult thing, so that’s all I’m gonna say.

Conundrum…

So,

Got an idea for a new Women’s Contemporary fiction book and wanna run it by my editor.

I was talking to a friend the other day, and she was telling me about this huge conundrum that she’s in. I thought that I would the scenario for a new book. Then I thought I would send it out, have you guys respond to it, and then whoever has the best answer, I’ll base the ending of the book on what they wrote back to me. You’ll get partial credit for the concept, be acknowledged at the end of the book for your contributions, and get some fame out of it lol.

However, there are some stipulations for answers:

. You Can Not answer in a Christian tone, (i.e, you’re goin to hell in gasoline draws, God is gonna punish you, or the Bible says blazay, blazay….)

2. She is NOT a hoe, so I won’t accept answers like that.

3. Give serious answers, on what you think she should do.

4. Whichever is the best answer I’m gonna use for the ending of the book.

Scenario:

My friend and I were having coffee the other day, and I asked how her love life was going. She started laughing hysterically, and then commenced to tell me about it. She’d been dating this older guy, (she’s 35) for over a year now, but they have absolutely nothing common. (Yes sometimes this is good, but others it can be a disaster, which is what they are.) They have nothing in common whatsoever.

My friend, we’ll just say Emma, is a progressive liberal-near socialist, and he’s a conservative. They have nothing in common, except sex, (here she says it is off the chain hahaha). The sex is amazing, but they can’t have a normal conversation without it turning into an argument. Yet, despite this craziness, s says that he is a very sweet person (I’ve met him a couple of times and other than his spews of bollix on social issues he seemed nice enough). He does anything to make her happy, but he won’t see anyone else’s views as valid. He constantly talks shite about anything other than his views or beliefs, like the fact that education is a rip off, professors are shysters ( here you know I wanted to punch him the f*** out!) but they have been together for a year and she loves him to some degree; (but I think it’s more that she’s comfortable, he’s dependable, and she feels like since she’s 35 she doesn’t want to get out there in the meat market of dating).

Well, she happened to be at starbucks getting coffee and some guy asked what she was ordering out of the blue, and she turned to see who it was, and she said she was like wow( I know, already an intro for a book lol, I just need to make him extra yummy lol). They started talking, and he asked her for coffee the following week.

She decided to go, and said that she had a blast.

Here in lies her problem; she found out that he was only 26 years old (hahahahaha! Yes, I feel like use and abuse him for all of us over 35 year old women!).

He is everything that she wants. He’s funny, caring, likes the things that she likes, is kewl wit her 12 year old son, notices things, (like she got a hair cut, lost weight) and she has been dating him on the side for the last 4 months. Well, it’s been 4 months, but she hasn’t told the other guy that she’s been dating the 26 year old.

Last week she said that it got intimate, and here I’m sorry but I couldn’t help laughing; because she said that the 26 year old was only 5’9 and hung like a horse! (LmmfaO, Hahahahaha!).

Well, my answer to this could have gone several ways. But seeing as how we’ve been friends for over a decade, she already knows what I’m gonna say to her. So I thought, I’d put it out there to you guys, and see what you thought? I already told her that I was gonna use it for a women’s fiction, so go ahead and give me your best.

She said that she was reluctant to make a choice, and I asked her why; this is what she said.

1. She’s 35 years old with a 12 year old son, and could she really have a relationship of significance with a 26 year old?

2. The 43 year old is stability, even if he is a dick most of the time

3. What if next week the 26 year old decided to date someone his own age, and where does that leave her if she gives up the 43 year old?

4. Although she is totally enraptured with the 26 year old, he wants things that she doesn’t (children, marriage), and wants her to want the same.

So, here is what you have to answer;

What would you advise her to do?

C’mon y’all make em good. Whichever is the best is the one that I’m gonna use for the book, will be posted on all the book sites, and you get credit for your answer if I use it.

P.S.

The contest for the free digital copy of Teaching between Midnight and Dawn is still going strong (www.freewebs.com/poisonedpin. go to shout outs). The contest end date is Dec 23rd, so get your shout outs in by then if you want to win. By leaving a shout out, you’re automatically entered for a chance to win. New authors, writers, published and anything in between…

So, I decided to write a paranormal book from my own cultural perspective. I’m Latin (Puerto Ricania/ Cubanita), Irish, African-American and Native American. Yet, I wanted my characters to reflect who I was, but incorporate other cultures as well. My books center on the myths of Ast`/the Egyptian Goddess Isis, Osiris, Horus both Elder and Infant, Thoth, the Underworld, the legends of the first wolf King linked to Romulus and Remus, the Goddess Sekhmet, the Japanese Sun Goddess, Finnish and Keltic legends, Ancient Church societies like the Brotherhood, the Avantes and Flaminie, Wyatt and Surrey, , Spartacus, Merlin, Shamanistic Rituals and the legend of the ancient Blackfeet; and Teaching. I’ve written 10 1/2 paranormals so far, (Teaching Between Midnight and Dawn Series) 3 Historical Romance, and 1 Contemporary Women’s fiction. My first book to be published was Teaching Between Midnight and Dawn by Eternal Press on Aug 7th of this year.

Anyway, I thought that I would take what we know of the paranormal genre, and instead of making the main character like this kick ass detective, hunter, or private dick; I decided to throw a bunch of teachers in the mix, who had historical knowledge of what vampires, wolves and ghosties were all about; but would never in a million years believe it was true.

This my friends was…the…hardest…idea to sell to anyone!

Lol, but finally I did. I got a bunch of rejection letters that were both painful and insightful; but I will say that the most hilarious one that I got (won’t embarrass the editor because she wasn’t prejudice, just more like ignorant; and she apologized profusely later) was from this company, who looked at my last name (INFANTE`) and assumed that the accents that my Scottish werewolves have were actually typos. She said that the book was very entertaining, but she was very concerned about my language skills, then suggested that I take an English as a second language course. Needless to say, I laughed hysterically, sent her an email back and told her that not only was I a teacher, but the characters had accents.

After that, my sister gave me this lil book called, “Dirty Rotten Rejections,” and I still laugh every time that I think about that one. The book was very uplifting, and told of the plights that other very well known authors went through. Huckleberry Fin was rejected 35 times, E.T, 28, and a host of others. I bet the studios who rejected E.T are still kickin their own asses! hahaha!

I wanted to start this blog because although we live in the 21st century, there are vast wrongly sighted stereotypes, labels, ethnic discrimination and beliefs that continue to be perpetuated out there in the real world. The very idea that a publishing company would think that the average soccer mom wouldn’t want to read my book, because the main female character is Half Caucasian and Half African seems preposterous to me. But many of the editors that I have spoken to in the last five years swear that this is true. They themselves are in no way prejudice ( at least they didn’t sound like it), it is just that this is still a business; and they want to be able to market what the know they can sell, (Hence Twilight. I have no prob wit Steph, I’m just not a fan. But I am a fan of her popularity, hook a sustah up Steph!)

Notwithstanding, at the same time, I think it is equally unfair to be pigeonholed into one specific section ( like because I’m mixed my books should be in either the African-American section, or the Latina. This stems from that antediluvian idea of that ole`”One Drop” rule bollix that continues to be preserved.

This blog is not only about my books, but it is also for those of you who feel like I do, and want to vent lol, or just talk and swap ideas about the paranormal genre and what we think would make it even better than it already is. Paranormal and many of its origins; Voodoo, Necromancy, Mystic entrancement, Sangria, Wicca, Magick, Voulrdoron and a host of others; as well as the ancient spiritual workings that originated to begin with that many subscribe to today are not from Americans. So to classify them as one specific forum seems like complete bollix to me. Remember, America, Spain, as well as Rome wanted to stamp out anything that wasn’t of a Christian/Catholic edict.
